Facial Feature Studies
Graphite on Paper
A classic observational drawing exercise isolating individual facial features. The student demonstrates a strong grasp of value and shading; the eyes show careful attention to iris highlights and lash detail, while the lips have nice tonal gradation capturing the volume difference between the upper and lower lip.
The diagonal split-face composition in the center-right panel is a clever layout choice that adds visual interest. The ear study handles the complex folds of cartilage convincingly, typically one of the harder features for students to render. Throughout, the student builds form through light and shadow with confidence.
